The most common method of using shower curtains to add life to a bathroom is by picking a contemporary shower curtain that is appealing and expresses your home decorating ideas.

Next, people pick a matching set of towels and maybe  a soap dish set.  This makes the bathroom look like the home decorator just tried to hide the decorator's mistakes.

A better method of re-creating an out of date bathroom is to use striped fabric shower curtains and, or, geometric shower curtains, in a newer, contemporary way. 

One method is to tread the fabric shower curtains like drapes. 

Dramatic Effect

One method is to balloon or scallop the shower curtains'.   The effect is more dramatic if a light is installed in the shower and turned on when company comes. 

Another method of bringing new life to a bathroom is by doubling up solid and striped fabric shower curtains. 

Put the solid fabric shower curtains on the backside and the stripped fabric shower curtain on the top. Drape the top curtains back to expose the bottom set of shower curtains.

Inject Life into Your Bathroom

Shower curtains that are used in unusual combinations can be used to cover up old glass shower curtain doors.

The contemporary shower curtains need to be hanging on a rod a couple inches in front of the glass shower doors. 

Again, do not worry about making the bathroom look normal.  There are some clever methods of bringing the room to life.

Creating stencils from the patterns in the geometric shower curtains, or following the pattern in striped fabric shower curtains.

Stencil this pattern on the wall or on the baseboard. Do not make a trimmed line around the upper edge of the room like most people do.

Instead, make a zig zag pattern on the wall, waist high, or make a single line of patterns, from floor to ceiling on one wall of the room. 

This concept can be carried farther by painting the design on the tooth brush holders, soap dishes, and the garbage pail.

Plastic can be easily decorated to match contemporary shower curtains by using common acrylic craft paint. Most craft stores carry glass paint, or a plastic paint that will adhere to glass.

This will give the room a more complete look. 

It does not take a full restoration project to restore beauty and style to an out of date bathroom, or to correct problems caused by an amateur home decorating job. 

The  right set of striped fabric shower curtains, or geometric shower curtains, can make all the difference.
